Rate override rules

Control the customer-facing delivery price with rules: subsidize it, offer free shipping over a threshold, or set a flat rate.

Rate overrides control what your customers pay for delivery at checkout — separate from what Trexity bills you for the actual courier run. Use them to subsidize delivery, offer free shipping over a cart threshold, or set a flat customer-facing rate.

Read this first. Overrides change only the price the customer sees. You’ll still be charged the actual Trexity rate for each shipment. Free delivery to the customer is a subsidy you pay, not a discount from Trexity.

Where to find it

App → Checkout → Delivery rate override. The subtitle reads “Control delivery prices at checkout.”

Overrides apply to all delivery options at checkout.

How a rule works

Each rule has two parts:

  1. When — one or more conditions that decide whether the rule applies to this order.
  2. Then — how to change the customer-facing delivery price.

Conditions (“When”)

You can build conditions from:

  • Order value — the cart subtotal.
  • Delivery rate — the quoted delivery price for the order.

Each condition uses a comparison: less than, less than or equal, equal, greater than or equal, or greater than. You enter dollar amounts in the UI.

Conditions inside one rule are combined with and — every condition must be true for the rule to apply.

Note. Delivery distance is not a condition in the Shopify app. Use order value or the delivery rate instead.

Actions (“Then”)

An action changes the price:

  • Set rate to — a flat price. Set it to $0 for free delivery.
  • Decrease rate by — subsidize by a fixed amount.
  • Increase rate by — add a surcharge above the quote.

A built-in guard ensures the customer price never goes below $0, even if a subsidy would take it negative.

Quick-start presets

When you add a rule, you can start from a preset instead of building from scratch:

  • Subsidize delivery on large orders — decrease the rate by $5 when order value is over $50.
  • Free delivery on large orders — set the rate to $0 when order value is over $100.
  • Flat rate delivery — set the rate to $6.99 on every order.
  • Create custom rule — build your own conditions and action.

Tune any preset’s amounts after adding it.

Stacking multiple rules

You can add more than one rule. They run in order, top to bottom, and each one can further adjust the price. For example, a subsidy rule can lower the price, and the never-below-$0 guard still keeps the final number sensible.

Test before you save

The Test your rules panel lets you preview the outcome without touching a live checkout:

  1. Enter a sample Order value.
  2. Enter a sample Delivery rate.
  3. The panel shows “Customer sees: $X.XX” — the price a customer would get with your current rules.

Adjust the rules until the tester shows what you want, then save.

What this does and doesn’t change

  • Does change the delivery price shown to the customer at checkout.
  • Doesn’t change what Trexity bills you — that’s always the actual delivery cost.
  • Doesn’t rename the shipping options. Labels like “Same Day Delivery” still come from Trexity.
  • Doesn’t decide whether Trexity appears at all — that’s service availability rules.

Common questions

“I set free delivery. Why was I still charged?” Rate overrides only change the customer’s price. Trexity bills you the actual courier cost regardless. Free delivery is a subsidy you chose to give.

“Can I charge more than the quote?” Yes — use Increase rate by to add a margin. Watch for cart abandonment on higher shipping prices.

“Do overrides work with Shopify Local Delivery?” Local Delivery prices are set in Shopify’s own zone settings, not here. Rate overrides apply to Trexity’s live carrier rates at checkout. See Setting up Local Delivery.

“How do I see the effect on my margins?” The Delivery Analytics page compares what Trexity charged you against what you charged customers, including your net delivery margin.
